Giant Alliums. If you dream, dream of alliums.

I like alliums as overall they are easy to grow and have maximum whimsical effect! I bought a bag-full of bulbs last autumn and spent far too long digging and planting (almost cursing myself), but boy was the effort worth it this spring!

I planted two sets around the Japanese Acer tree; the white colour alliums (White Giant) grew up through the acer foliage like skyscrapers commanding the city skyline and gracefully bob around in the breeze. Unfortunately the purple ones remain hidden underneath the acer foliage, which makes for great viewing when I'm rolling around at grass level (more common than you might think)!

A third set was planted in the back half of the garden. These looked fab - different sized purple spheres all swaying around in the wind.

I was most exited by planting three GIANT alliums, especially after visiting the Botanical Gardens in Leicester. Alas, so far I have failed in producing anything at all as:

1) I can only remember where I've planted two of them.

2) I have had green leaves (a promising start) which slowly started to turn yellowy and no sign of a stem.

I'm not sure why this is happened (except point 1 - that's because I didn't write it down and have a memory of a sieve). My neighbour thinks they might come good in year 2. Here's to hoping.
