Little did I know when perusing the local garden centre that the Disksonia Antarctica Fern would be the gift that keeps on giving. It has great impact with its broad green leaves, giving an architectural uplift to a relatively shady corner of the garden, which would have otherwise been quite flat and dull. It’s a bit of prehistoria giving a lush jungle vibe and its really easy to look after. It’s also evergreen giving a bit of lift in a garden which shrinks away as November hits. Watching a leave unfurl is fantastic as is watching the foliage colour transform from a fresh pea green to an aged wine bottle black. A whole corner of my garden has been built around this piece of plant furniture so it's definitely been worth the investment. A very happy accident.
