This is a gem. a stunning Japanese gem.

My husband loves trees, privacy and Japanese things. Hakuro Nishiki was the neat solution for all three. Tick, Tick and Tick. A small ornamental tree with the most beautiful white and pink tipped leaves in the spring. Its simple and elegant and really easy to manage and for our small garden shouldn't grow larger than 2.5metres.

Underneath I've planted a bright pink Salvia which complements the tree beautifully. There is also a drought resistant Red Star' Cordyline (following the Scorch of 2019) which gives a contrasting structure. I thought it would look really odd but actually it fills out an awkward corner really well. I chucked a few tulip bulbs around the site too which worked out well for spring colour but I don't think I'll be winning any medals for garden design anytime soon!

It also looks great against a "blousy" pink rose and Kates apple tree - especially with its spring flowers.

March/April 2020 Haruko-Nishiki photos below:

Good early spring greenery, starts with bright green foliage (feels like the gardens awakening). Pink leaf like flowers, very dainty and delicate. In a sunny spot... and gets better over May!
